On the 31st July to the 1st August Kallaki Judo Club held its first training weekend, attracting players from Kallaki, Harwich and Dovercourt and Yama Arashi Ryu. Four visiting coaches were in attendance one of which was an international coach from Holland.

The weekend was aimed at players from 8 years old upwards and split in to 8 sessions encompassing fitness and flexibility, strength and endurance, techniques and tactics and fun and games.  The players had an added incentive to try their best over the weekend as the supporters of Kallaki Haven Ports and Wix Equestrian Centre had kindly donated a trophy that was to be awarded to the player who made a continuous effort to improve their judo skills throughout the weekend.

The trophy was awarded to Ebony Chambers from Harwich and Dovercourt Judo Club her willingness to learn made her the obvious choice for this award. The presentation was made by Tim Austin representing the Anchor Inn who kindly supplied some food for the weekend.

The aim of the weekend was to give players an insight in to areas of judo that are not usually covered in normal classes. Most of the players in attendance are entering their first International competition held at Yama Arashi Ryu in October where they are going to meet strong opposition from Holland, Ireland Germany, India and many strong UK clubs.

The plans are in place for another training weekend next year where we hope to have visiting foreign teams from Holland and India in attendance as well as our neighbouring clubs.

Weekend end coaching Team: Dave, Ian, Mark, Paul, Ray and Roy.

Supported by Haven Ports, Wix Equestrian Centre,
