News October 2003 Spirit Shines through at Prestigious Event. |

Martial arts students from across Europe and Asia descended on Clacton for the town's International Festival of Judo. The prestigious event was held at Clacton Leisure Centre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The competition was organised by Judo for All scheme, giving players with special needs the chance to compete alongside other judoka, This was the second year the event has taken place in this format with teams and individual players attending from across Europe . Wales, Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands sent very strong teams. A team from India also made the journey, with two of their players taking medals in hard fought contest. Just under 400 judoka starting from the age of eight took part over two days in what was at times an outstanding demonstration of judo. Picture of Special Needs and Coach's exhibition team 2003
An exhibition by special needs players proved a high light of the weekend where they asked spectators to join them on the judo mats and participate. Local Tendring players that won medals: Paul Thompson the financial executive of Mistley based sponsors Edme, presented the medals on Saturday and on Sunday David Amos presented the medals to the winners of the day. A number of contestants representing judo clubs from around the Tendring area won medals over the two days. There was also a presentation of an award for the spirit of judo.Yama Arashi Ryu
