Essex Youth Games

This event will be in the form of a Red Belt Rumble and is aimed at beginners in Judo. To be held at:-

Participation: 
  • Boys and Girls who are a minimum of 8 years old up to and including 16 years old on the day. Players must live in or be attending a school in Essex or a bone fide member of an Essex Judo Club.
  • Competitors must be members of the British Judo Association, British Judo Council, Amateur Judo Association, or hold a British Judo Association Schools introductory licence (£5.00). Further information contact Dermot Heslop 01925 270702 Mobile 07976 216447
  • Competitors must be Novice to 6th Mon (Yellow belt) maximum
  • This is a Development Event – BJA Under 12 rules will be observed throughout the Tournament.
  • Restrictions of numbers – “First come first served”
  • NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY
Mode and Special Notes:
  • This Competition is funded by Sport Essex – Your County Sports Partnership
  • Players will be weighed in on the day (at the venue) and will be placed into pools of three, four or five with children as close as possible to their own age/weight/grade and experience.  The organisers will, wherever possible, separate players from the same borough, school and club.
  • Every competitor will receive a Youth Games medal
  • Contest duration will be two minutes.
  • Strangles and arm locks will not be permitted.
  • Please note that one referee may referee these contests only.
  • Coaches please note: - under 12 Rules will apply in all group.
  • We are aiming to keep this event to those judokas who are just starting their judo careers
  • Players will not be penalised for instinctively executing restricted techniques.   The referee will advise the child not to repeat the throw, however if a player consistently uses these techniques the referee may use their discretion as to whether the player should be penalised.

Weigh in Times

  • Venue: Sumners GPCA Leisure Centre, Harlow, Essex, CM19 5RD
  • The British Judo Association weigh-in policy will be operated.
  • Red Belts Book in 9.15 – 9.45am
  • 10:00hrs to 10:30hrs organised warm up session prior to start of the competition.
  • Yellow Belts Book in . 12:00 – 12:30pm
  • 12:45hrs to 13:15hrs organised warm up session prior to start of the competition. (approx)
  • Boys must wear judogi trousers when weighing in. 
  • Tolerance of 0.5kg (500grams) will be given
  • Girls must wear judogi trousers and a T-shirt when weighing in
  • Tolerance of 0.6kg (600grams) will be given
Weigh-In:
  • The British Judo Association weigh-in policy will be operated.
  • Boys must wear judogi trousers when weighing in. 
  • Tolerance of 0.5kg (500grams) will be given
  • Girls must wear judogi trousers and a T-shirt when weighing in
  • Tolerance of 0.6kg (600grams) will be given
