BJA. Preliminary Club Coach

 

As per B.J.A Newsletter Issue No.4 August 2002

The Board of Directors has decided that effect from 1st January 2003 the Preliminary Club Coach award will be restricted. The award will qualify the holder to assist a Club or Senior Club Coach at sessions or classes but will not be eligible to apply for Accredited \\\Coach Status as this allows mat-side coaching.

Preliminary Club Coaches award holders will still be covered by the BJA profession anal indemnity insurance from 1st January 2003 provided that they do not exceed the award restriction.

Part 1

The candidate will be required to demonstrate ten techniques with a minimum of five to be throws.  These techniques will be the choice of the Examiner.

The preparation course should therefore ensure that the Candidate has a thorough knowledge of the techniques within the Junior Syllabus and the Senior Syllabus up to 5th Kyu going for 4th Kyu.

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 70%

Part 1B

The candidate will be required to demonstrate knowledge of Japanese terminology "ie" the translating of Ten examples of Japanese terminology into English.  The examples will be the choice of the Examiner.  The information source will be the Junior and Senior syllabus.

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 70%

Part 2

The candidate will be required to demonstrate the ability to run one Fifteen minute class session teaching one throw and one hold respectively.  A fifteen minute period will be allowed for preparation.

The preparation course should therefore prepare the candidate with the emphasis on the following disciplines.

A).    Introduction

B).    Technique

C).    Progression

D).    Clarity of instruction

E).    Presence

F).    Imagination

The techniques selected by the Examiner and the information source will be the entire Junior syllabus of the Senior syllabus up to and including 5th Kyu going for 4th Kyu.

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 70%

Part 3A

  The Candidate must demonstrate an ability to Referee up to three Senior contests.  

The preparation course should therefore prepare the Candidate with emphasis in the following disciplines.

 

A).  Correct Words

B). Correct Scores

C). Correct Signals

D). Awareness of Safety

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 50%

 

Part 3B

The Candidate must be successful in answering a Multi-Choice and Oral BJA Refereeing questionnaire. 

The pass marks will be 50% for each paper, failure in either one will constitute failure of the whole exam

 

Part 4

This section will consist of an interview and discussion period between the Examiner and Candidate.

The preparation course should therefore put aside time for a general discussion with the Candidate on the various relevant aspects of Coaching which would include.

A).  Insurance.

B).  How to run and manage a club.

C).  Best practice.

D).  Child protection / abuse, etc.

C).  Safety aspects etc.

There is no pass or fail for this section

Part 5

The Candidate will be required to answer a First Aid Questionnaire.

 

Minimum Pass Mark = 70%

 

Preparation Course for
Club Coach Award

This is not an official document and is only for guidelines. 

Candidates should ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of Age and BJA Grade:

    Minimum Age:  18 years.
    Minimum Grade:  1st Kyu.

The Examination for the Club Coach Award consists of seven parts and this preparation course will prepare the candidate accordingly. It would be useful to refer during the course to the current examination paper.

Part 1

The candidate will be required to demonstrate Fifteen techniques from each of the Tachi-waza and Newaza Gokyo and will be the Examiners choice.

The candidate should therefore ensure a thorough knowledge of the Gokyo's. Marking will vary from 0 to 10 for each technique. Minimum pass mark (for each section) is 112.

Part 2

The candidate will be required to run a Fifteen minute class session teaching a technique of th Examiners Choice from one of the Gokyos.

The preparation course should therefore prepare the candidate with the emphasis in the following disciplines.

a)  Introduction

b). Technique

c). Progression

d). Clarity of instruction

Part 3

The Candidate must prepare a beginners course plan, first lesson made up of ten sections as follows. The plan must be submitted in written or typed form prior to the exam and be specific in the following.

 

a). Introduction (Including terminology as necessary).

b). Safety / Hygiene.

c). Etiquette.

d). Dress requirements (Including badges).

e). Warm up.

f). Ukemi.

g). Grips (Right and Left).

h). Throws.

i). Holds.

j). Question / Close.

 

The Candidate must score a minimum of 5 out of 10 in each of the 10 sections.

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 75% (Minimum 5% in any section).

Part 4.

The Candidate must prepare a beginners course plan, ten lessons x 1hr 30 mins total. The topics for the ten lessons would be as follows.

a). Throws (Static and Dynamic) + Avoidances + Links.

b). Holds + Escapes + Links.

c). Neck locks + Defences.

d). Armlocks + Defences.

e). Combination techniques.

f). Counter techniques.

g). Grips and Postures.

h). Tactics.

i). I.J.F Rules.

j). Grading Information.

Maximum Marks Possible = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark = 75%

 

Part 5

Will consist of an interview and discussion period between the Examiner and Candidate.

a). Insurance.

b). How to run and manage a club.

c). Best practice.

d). Child protection / abuse, etc.

e). Safety aspects etc.

There is no pass or fail for this section

Part 6.

The Candidate must be able to answer both a Multi-Choice and Oral BJA Refereeing questionnaire.

The pass marks will be 60% for each paper, failure in either one will constitute failure of the whole exam.

 

Part 7

The Candidate will be required to answer a First Aid Questionnaire.

The pass marks will be 80%.

 

 

Course for Senior Club

 

Preparation Course for Senior Club Coach Award

This is not an official document and is only for guidelines.

Candidates should ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of Age and BJA Grade:

    Minimum Age:  18 years.
    Minimum Grade:  1st Dan.

The Examination for the Senior Club Coach Award consists of five parts and this preparation course will prepare the candidate accordingly. It would be useful to refer during the course to the current examination paper.

The candidate must complete one set each of the Naga-No-Kata and the Katame-No-Kata, {Students Choice}, or produce a minimum of a County standard Certificate in Kata.

Part 2A

The candidate will be required to demonstrate the ability to run a 30 minute class session, teaching two techniques from the Tachi-waza Gokyo.

 Examiner will select two for teaching purposes. The candidates selection must include one Koshi (Loin Technique), one TE (hand Technique), and one Ashi-Waza. The preparation course should also prepare the candidate in the following disciplines.

a). Introduction

b). Technique

c). Progression

d). Clarity of Instruction

e). Presence

f). Imagination

Maximum marks possible (For each Technique) = 100%

Minimum Pass Mark (For each Technique) = 70%

Part 2B

The candidate will be required to demonstrate the ability to run a 30 minute class session, teaching two techniques from the Ne-waza Gokyo.

Techniques of the Ne-Waza Gokyo of his/her choice from which the Examiner will select two for teaching purposes. The candidates selection must include one Shime-Waza, one Kansetsu-Waza , and one Osaekomi-Waza . Emphasis should be placed on the points as in Part 2A.
Marking is also as in Part 2A.

Part 2C

The Candidate will be required to link two throws [Renrakuwaza] and run a ten minute class demonstrating how to link one throw with the other.  The two techniques will come from the five used in part 2A with the first throw selected by the Examiner and the second selected by the Candidate.

d). Improved performance of the Candidate

Part 2D

The Candidate will be required to link two techniques "i.e." one throw into one Ne-Waza Technique.  The throw will be selected by the Examiner from any of the five from Part 2A and the Ne-Waza technique is the Candidates choice.

 

Part 4

The Candidate will be required to answer a First Aid Questionnaire.

The pass marks will be 90%.
