Bremen Masters and the International Training Camp that follows is one of the hardest events the Cadet Squad enter, it gives our players the opportunity to compete/train with players we don’t often meet and this year was no different – there were teams from Japan, China, Kazakhstan, Romania, Hungary, Austria & Latvia along with many many more. We travelled to Germany along with the Junior Men’s Squad who were fighting in the same event.

We had 13 Cadet Boys participating in the Cadet Event and 4 in the Junior Match

Golds: Silver: Bronze:
  Jayson  Fairbairn  -  U90kgs

Jesse     Belardo –  U81kgs

Chris Prince –  U50kgs

5th Place:

Jean-Rene Badrick  U60kgs.       Adam Green – U60kgs

   1987/88/89.

The entries in all the weights in this age group were good, the only problem that we noticed was in the draw – were the sequence was repeated in each quarter. We had no players in the first two weights, for Chris Prince and Russell Parker in the U50 it looked hard – for Russell this was his toughest

ever event, defeating a German and a Pole before losing to a Dutch Boy, in the Repechage he lost out to another German boy. Chris Prince had an excellent  start winning four match’s against German, Pole, Dutch and another German for a place in the semi-final. For a place in the final he had a German and

After a tremendous performance he lost to a terrible refereeing decision. In the repechage he had Tamas Hardi – Hungarian, after another hard match he gained a well earned bronze.

In the U55kgs Chris Stewart had a win and a loss against a German and a Pole – who lost his next match which put him out, Khalid Gehlan lost his only fight and was out.

The U60kgs had three players J-R Badrick, Adam Green & Marcus Bascombe, Marcus went out early but J-R and Adam battled hard through the pools demonstrating some excellent judo, but unfortunately both lost for a bronze medal, both gaining 5th places.

At U66kgs Vince Skillcorn was our  only representative – he opened up with a win against a German and lost then to a Pole, who went out next round ending Vince’s  competition.

At U73kgs Danny Harper went out first round, Christian Tomlinson like Danny lost his first against a German and then had a long wait to see if he had another match, he got back into the repachage against Jos Lutjeboer Netherlands, which he won before losing to a German Boy.

At U81kgs Jesse Belardo fought really well defeating a German, Dutch, Hungarian and Romanian on the way to the final. In the final he fought a Japanese Boy Akihiro Morita, the Japanese boy was straight into it throwing Jesse with Okuri Ashi Harai twice to end the match – Jesse worked hard to gain a good Silver medal.

In the U90kgs category Adam Theaker & Jayson Fairbairn were our final representatives, Adam had a good win against a German, losing his next to come back in the Repechage, fighting hard he lost to Andrei Vultur – Romania. Jayson got off to a good start against a German, then a Pole and then another German for a place in the final. In his final he had Tino Bierau from Germany, a hard match he lost on a hold down but gained a well deserved Silver Medal.

  1984/85/86

We had four players in this age, at U55kg Brett Caswell was our first player, he only had one match losing out to a German – this weight  was dominated by Latvia taking the Gold and Silver.

At U60kgs Tom Henry  had a good match against a Dutch Boy only to lose A hard contest.

In the U66kgs Anthony Parkinson had a win against a Belgium then lost to an

Austrian who himself went out.

Our final representative was Sean McCormack at U73kgs, he went out first round against a Dutch Boy.

After the Match in Bremen we moved to Hannover for the Training Camp, all our boys trained twice a day in the morning Newaza and in the afternoon standing randori , everyone worked hard although they took some knocks and bruises nobody gave it up.
